The JSH provides for its residents a personalized program based on a system comprised of 3 phases.
All incoming residents start off in “Acclimation.” In this phase our staff take time getting to know each individual personally so that we can start building a specialized treatment plan based on their needs. During acclimation each resident has constant supervision from our staff as well as intensive case management, therapy, 12-Step based groups and life skills training. This is the time for each person to build their daily schedule as well as accustom themselves to our program and staff. Within this framework our residents develop the tools necessary to move onto the next phase of our program.
Once a resident has shown a reasonable level of stability and has mastered the expectations of Acclimation he moves onto the next phase of our program. Residents are given more freedom and are expected to embark on more of the practical aspects of their long-term plans. This may include looking for work, visiting educational institutions, volunteering and any other constructive endeavor approved by staff.
In our last phase residents are expected to maintain a daily schedule outside of the house between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm. Individual as well as group therapy continues in the evening hours and our staff is always available for guidance and support during this phase. At this stage each resident should be able to manage their own time with ongoing, although minimal, outside support and are expected to only engage in activities that further their recovery goals. While our staff is still involved in the progress of each resident at this time; the residents will already have the tools to correctly identify any issues they may be having and how to appropriately seek guidance in a safe and secure environment.
While each phase has its own unique expectations and responsibilities, in order to progress within our program, the staff at the JSH must see motivation, responsibility and initiative from the resident at a level commensurate to their phase.
